I am so excited to share this story of my client, Vicki, on her quest to achieve great style. The biggest takeaway (and there were many) is that she is retired (done with her corporate job). Many of my clients come to me because they understand the association of professionalism and style. What I love is that Vicki didn’t need the usual motivation (a career) to motivate her for this experience. She knew that wanting to look good and feel great about herself was all the motivation she needed. Style is a lot more about mindset than clothes. She was ready in the inside and wanted to show the world who she was.
She also had two experiences with personal shoppers at department stores – one was positive and one was negative so she was apprehensive but open to hiring me.
Below is her story (in her words) and her journey from feeling uncertain about her style to feeling the happiest she ever has with her clothes!
Let’s start at the beginning…
“This whole process began when I overheard two ladies discussing an acquaintance, similar to my age, whom they dubbed as “dowdy”. I came home, surveyed my wardrobe, which consisted mainly of crop pants, t-shirts and flip flops, and decided I never wanted to be described as “dowdy”. This was my lightbulb moment when I realized that I needed some help with creating a more stylish look and thus the start of my fashion adventure with Loren.”

What surprised you about working with Loren and the process (if anything)?
I was surprised that Loren makes the process fun and had a very nice way of telling me that something just does not work and should not be a keeper.
How did you feel about yourself before working with Loren?
I was less confident in my style, much more tolerant of unflattering clothing and had very low expectations of my clothing regarding being flattering, stylish and working with more than one piece of clothing.
How do you feel now?
I am quick to assess if something is flattering and if it is not, as much as I like it, it is not a keeper. I know what to look for and what to avoid. Also, I strive to look nice for every occasion/errand/whatever. Working with Loren has inspired me to step-up all pieces of my wardrobe including gym clothes and sleepwear. She has also inspired me to make what pieces I have work for me and this has included having some pieces alternated and some changes as minor as new shoelaces.

What risks (if any) did you see to working with Loren and how did you overcome those risks to move forward?
I decided that if I wanted to receive all of the advantages of working with Loren, I had to be open to change and to an honest critique of both my wardrobe and my style. She helped me overcome my reluctance to do my Style Board [Pinterest] which really is an essential piece of the process.
How would you describe the experience of working with Loren?
A fashion adventure that has been a little painful, involved real learning and has been both very rewarding and fun.
Why work with a personal shopper/clothing stylist?
“I am the happiest I have ever been with my clothes and what to wear when!! “
What has changed for you personally since working with Loren?
I have become more confident and much more demanding regarding my clothes. I trust my intuition. Even if I really like a piece of clothing but do not think that it is flattering I toss/consign/donate it. I’ve removed my name from several stores mailing lists as I really do not think I need more clothes. I have never ever thought that!
