A stylist’s guide to closet organizing hacks
Organizing your closet for ease of dressing each day can save time and reduce stress. You may have a pretty tidy closet but want things to be easier to find, stored in such a way that maintains the clothes, or want to see your items in “one place.” All of these closet organizing “hacks” are either things I use myself or advise for my clients.
Most closets are meant for hanging clothes and have more hanging space than is needed and not enough storage for folding clothes. It’s much easier to get ready and wear more of what we own, if we see most of what we have in one space.
If we store items that we occasionally wear in dressers, we may forget we have them because we don’t see them. I advise keeping the things we will never forget to be allocated to dressers (eg. undergarments, socks, workout clothes, jeans, etc.).
In our attempt to see what we own, we throw everything on a hanger. Many of my clients hang things that should be folded including camisoles, bras, sweaters, knit cardigans and t-shirts. So we need the proper storage devices to make it easier to see these items while preventing them from getting stretched out or from losing their shape.
If you are overwhelmed by where to start or know your closet needs a major organizing system, then consider working with a professional organizer (find them here).
However, if you have a few items that need to be stored so see them and therefore wear them, you can apply these clothing (and jewelry) closet organizing hacks. I have prepared an infographic with the closet organizing hacks I recommend so you can see them. The links are live so you will be taken directly to the website of the item in the pictures.
